SECTION-WISE TIPS FOR LIC ASSISTANT EXAM

English Language section 



This section is an integral part of the exam where student needs good command over English grammar and should be proficient in basics of English language. It will help you in attempting questions swiftly and accurately. Questions like sentence correction, error detection and fill in the blanks are based on parts of speech and holds maximum marks and thus one need to have good grammatical skills. Reading comprehension can be improved by developing regular reading habit. Read English newspaper on daily basis and learn at least five new words every day. Make a note of them and find the synonyms and antonyms to understand the correct usage of the word. Practice cloze test and Para jumbles by reading the entire passage carefully and effectively to attempt it accurately. To get the best results, one should read Cloze test twice as it gives you the central idea of the passage and you are able to fill the blanks effectively. Vocabulary is another important topic which holds at least 10 marks in the exam. Make it strong by learning new words with their correct meaning.

Reasoning Ability Section

It is a scoring section and one can score high in it by learning various short tricks to solve the puzzles and seating arrangement questions quickly. This section is designed to tests reasoning ability of the candidates. The questions will be quizzical in nature and will demand your good presence of mind, temperament and skills to solve them. Generally, questions are asked from circular arrangement, linear arrangement, parallel line arrangement, floor/ box based puzzles. Do not spend more time in any of the puzzles in case you are stuck up as it will spoil your precious time. Preferably start with the easy puzzles first so that you gain confidence and chances of mistakes become less too. Some of the easy topics are coding-decoding, alphanumeric series, direction sense, blood relation, etc. Pick the questions based on these topics first and then proceed further.

Quantitative aptitude section

It is the most complex section and majority of students are intimidated by it.  As you have studied majority of topics in your school education, it will essential for you to refresh your memories by consolidating your basics. While attempting the question paper, solve easy topics first such as simplification and approximation, quadratic equation, number series, etc. It will boost your confidence and give you mental satisfaction. Thereafter, one can proceed with the DI which generally carries 10-12 marks in case there are two sets of DI in the exam. DI can be mastered by learning ration and proportion, time and work, speed and distance, etc. Therefore, master these topics to solve DI questions accurately. DI questions can be asked in the form of pie chart, graph, line graph, and case let as per the exam analysis of the previous year. For enhancing speed of solving questions, students are advised to learn tables, formulas, and shortcuts by heart. The practice of speed tests, topic tests and mock tests will work like catalyst for enhancing your speed of calculations.
